Melt 04:54
We all melt away in the end. Don’t you know that we all melt away in the end When I left home I broke free from the master plan into the open sea Yeah, I set off on my own Without much direction Bumping into the others Without much discretion I sank a few ships But I never burned bridges Too bad they all lead To another dead end We all melt away in the end Don’t you know that we all melt away in the end Take me to the end of the world I want to see where the end will be But before I die I want to sail the sea I want to feel the waves washing over me I can feel each one take a part of me As I start to melt, melt away We all melt away in the end Don’t you know that we all melt away in the end

When you’re going down to the smokey mountain Take a little time to stop and look around Don’t forget from where you come Don’t regret it when you leave Take a little stroll through the town of Tondo Go where no one ever wants to Face the faces that will haunt you Press your hand onto a forehead Bless someone with your presence One way in and one way out How deep will you go before you turn around Two worlds that are one in the same One people and we all got a name Four seasons that can teach us to change I got three reasons we could all be saved Squeeze in through the door Take a seat down on the floor Watch the waves of plastic ocean Breathe the smoke in rising motion Here the fire will never burn out Up here on the smokey mountain Two worlds that are one in the same One people and we all got a name Four seasons that can teach us to change I got three reasons we could all be saved When you’re going down to the smokey mountain Take a little time to stop and look around

Everything went wrong Everything went way wrong Guess I waited too long Guess I waited way too long Everything went wrong Everything went wrong I’m a green-hearted man I’m a green-hearted man Body full of soul, skin full of tan Staying on a roll, sleeping when I can I’m a green-hearted man I’m a green-hearted man Everything felt right Everything felt so right Hiding in plain sight Waiting to come to light Yeah, it felt so right Everything felt right I’m a green-hearted man I’m a green-hearted man Body full of soul, skin full of tan Staying on a roll, sleeping when I can I’m a green-hearted man I’m a green-hearted man

Set Me Free 03:42
Struggling to let go Struggling to say goodbye To a life To a way of living That I’ve been living If you call that living If you call that life Come on and set me free I’ve been waiting to be set free Come on and let it be Come on and set me free From this life From this road From this lie That I’ve been walking towards They call in the light At the end of the tunnel But you know that tunnel Looks a lot like the bottom of a grave And the light burns out Because its fleeting I can’t escape this feeling There’s more to life than this Come on and set me free I’ve been waiting to be set free Come on and let it be Come on and set me free

The Fear 04:32
Stuck inside your mind You’re going crazy Your luck has run out this time You go lazy You gotta stop You gotta look around You gotta go You gotta get on out of here You can stick around ‘Cause the fear is just gonna keep you down Smoke and mirrors It’s all fogged Its gettin’ clearer I see the sun I see the stars I know the truth Its gettin’ nearer You gotta stop You gotta look around You gotta go You gotta get on out of here You can stick around ‘Cause the fear is just gonna keep you down The wind will blow it all away Until the fire turns into rain To wash away the fear and pain And usher in a brand new day You gotta stop You gotta look around You gotta go You gotta get on out of here You can stick around ‘Cause the fear is just gonna keep you down

Cardinal 05:08
Take your time, ’cause it flies Like the birds in the sky They don’t reap, they don’t sow Yeah, they’re fine And when it’s time, we all die No need to run, no need to cry ‘Cause we don’t choose, when or why So take your time I ride as fast as the cardinal flies I ain’t no falcon, yeah I take my time Gonna get where I’m going, gonna be on time It’s a race to the bottom, so i’ll end up on top I’ll be singing in the morning before the sun starts to rise You ain’t never heard a bird sing a song like mine Fly, fly, fly cardinal, fly I change as fast as the mockingbird song I ain’t no owl, yeah I don’t stay long Gonna be who I am in the moment that’s all ‘Cause this moment is fleeting, yeah we ain’t got long I’ll be flying through the night before the moon starts to rise Have you ever seen the sun set from the sky Fly, fly, fly cardinal, fly Take your time, ’cause it flies Like the birds in the sky They don’t reap, they don’t sow Yeah, they’re fine And when it’s time, we all die No need to run, no need to cry ‘Cause we don’t choose, when or why So take your time

75 feet tall and two feet across I’ve seen nearly 500 years as they’ve all come and gone I’ve seen the people change from Americans to whites They started tapping my friends for their turpentine My family got split for the big navy ships And others went to Brooklyn to hold up that bridge That time I didn’t think I’d make it through The whispering pine standing over you That time I didn’t think I’d make it through But here I am standing next to you I was 59 for the first colony I was 228 when they said “the land of the free” I was 317 when they all went to war I saw brothers fighting brothers and what was it for I was 356 when James Boyd came to town He built Weymouth, he bought land, and the fire burned all around That time I didn’t think I’d make it through The whispering pine standing over you That time I didn’t think I’d make it through But here I am standing tall right next to you Hurricane Hazel tried to blow me down Then came Matthew, tried to make me drown Then came the ice storms in ’68 and ’69 But through all of this stands the whispering pine That time I didn’t think I’d make it through The whispering pine standing over you That time I didn’t think I’d make it through But here I am standing tall, standing strong right next to you

It was 1992 when I wrote this to you In a Christmas card From the bottom of my heart I was reaching out ‘Cause we were losing touch So I wrote this down Dear Glenn and Ericka You take care of the mountain I’ll take care of the ocean Angels sang to greet him And the shepherds ran to meet him And the wise men knelt before him Let us all adore him You take care of the mountain I’ll take care of the ocean

Trimming bushes in the summer Plant a garden in the spring You know nothing could be funner As long as it’s you and me Digging ditches in the winter Fixing leaks in the fall You know for some it’s like a bummer But with you I don’t mind at all Any day’s a good day when I’m with you You’re my vegan with a sweet tooth Paddle out in the morning Go and hike all afternoon Catch a movie in the evening Spend all night staring up at the moon Get delayed in the airport Now we run to catch the plane Now we’re sleeping sitting straight up But with you, Love, it’s all a game Any day’s a good day when I’m with you You’re my vegan with a sweet tooth Everyday’s a good day when I’m with you You’re my vegan with a sweet tooth The stars are out tonight, there’s not a cloud in sight Let’s take the boat for a ride, and see what we can find Maybe an alligator, maybe signs of our creator In the shadows on the trees waving in the summer breeze I’ve got nothing to lose when I’m with my vegan with a sweet tooth Any day’s a good day when I’m with you You’re my vegan with a sweet tooth

Now that I’m home I can run away Out on my own, I’m here to stay Packing my things in boxes and bags These old clothes have turned into rags Gotta keep movin’ on Gotta keep movin’ Gotta keep movin’ on and on and on Throwing away what used to be priceless Old photos of me, but now there’s no likeness Gravitate towards the recent rendition And head out the door to continue my mission Gotta keep movin’ on Gotta keep movin’ Gotta keep movin’ on and on and on A rolling stone never grows moss It’s too busy moving along Gotta keep movin’ on Gotta keep movin’ Gotta keep movin’ on and on and on

about

It's been a long time coming. It seems like decades. Some things you can't deny, like doing what you love and making art to share. This album was recorded during a strange time in history, but the songs have been bubbling up to the surface for some time now. It feels like a boiling point and this is our kettle whistling. We hope you'll join us for a cup of tea.

Recorded Summer 2020 at Base Camp Studios and The Bear Hang, Wilmington, NC.

Mixed and Mastered at Base Camp Studios in Wilmington, NC.
